BiggiE's First Swim

BiggiE, reflecting on his water birth recently commented, "That's amazing that I was swimming without goggles." Yes, amazing is one word to describe your entry into the world, my son.

Mickey D's

Let me start by saying that we don't do fast food very often. If we do it is In'N'Out. I was convinced by Super Size Me and I agree with The Omnivore's Dilemma.

We don't belabor our opinions with the kids because we don't want to make fast food illicit = delicious. All this to tell how amused I was when my friend told me what occurred when she had Moose for a play date the other day.

Allison had taken the older boys to the park while I kept the younger ones. Moose and his friend were saying how hungry they were, so Allison decided to pop into McDonald's to give them a snack. The boys started to work on their yogurt parfaits and Allison noticed how slowly Moose was eating his. Allison asked him if everything was okay and Moose replied, "This isn't hurting me. I thought that it might since it doesn't have very good ingredients." Allison put Moose's mind at ease (and later I made sure to explain that having it once in a while was okay) and she and I had a good chuckle how kids this age see things very much in black and white.

Outnumbered 9-3

Os and some college friends went backpacking the other weekend and had an amazing time. Three of us wives decided to tackle the weekend together. The kids had a blast and we moms enjoyed scrapes of conversation. I love these moms and these kids. Three kids seems much larger when you multiple by three families -- we were a bit outnumbered.

Sun Valley, Idaho

I had the wonderful opportunity to join Os on one of his work trips a few weeks ago. Os was in Sun Valley, Idaho for a wine auction and I got to join in the fun. Just the plane flight was a treat. Drinking a latte and reading a book on the plane was a rare vacation, indeed.

This season of life doesn't allow Os and I as much one of one time as we would like, so we especially enjoy any chance we get. Sun Valley was beautiful and just being near the mountains tapped into my Rockies blood.

A Pie Party

Moose requested a pie instead of cake this year for his birthday, so we decided to give his party a pie theme.

The first game the boys were all chefs and had to protect their pie filling (balloon) from getting stomped by the other chefs. The chef with the last remaining pie filling was the winner.

My mom was in town and was very helpful on Jelly Bean duty. Jelly Bean is use to large boy shapes running past her, but the pie filling stomp game was a little much, even for her.

The next game was a pie eating contest. I'm glad the kids all enjoyed the games, because I found them highly amusing.

Not all the guests were keen on shoving their face into a pie, but the boys who did look pretty pleased with themselves. (I love how the three on the right are all still working on their pies even though the game is over.)

Finally we all tromped outside and threw whip cream pie at Os -- who was a great sport.

Moose selected apple pie and blueberry pie for his special day. Six candles! So exciting.
